Linguistic activism in the translation from Spanish to Quechua: An analysis of the Letras TV Willakun

Abstract

As of the publication of the Law on Indigenous Languages (Law 29735), the use of native languages in any public and private space has become more relevant in Peru, proof of this are television projects that include languages other than Spanish; even the creators of this content demonstrate a position in favor of the diffusion of the native languages and their culture. The objective of this article is to analyze the translation work performed by the interpreters of the micronoticist Letras TV Willakun to evaluate it as a case of language activism in favor of the Quechua language and culture The work concludes that, after interviewing the interpreters and part of the program's audience, this is a case of important developing activism in the university environment, despite its difficulties in the translation process.

Marco Antonio Lovón Cueva, UPC
Lingüista y politólogo por la Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos (UNMSM). Magíster en Lingüística por la Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (PUCP). Actualmente, es candidato a doctor en Lingüística por la PUCP. Ha realizado estudios de especialización en el Máster de Lingüística Hispánica y Lexicografía en la Real Academia Española, Madrid, España, gracias a la Beca Fundación Carolina. Sus intereses investigativos se centran en las áreas de la historia de las lenguas y sociolingüística de los pueblos andinos, así como en la geopolítica, las relaciones internacionales y la metodología de la investigación científica y académica. Es miembro titular del grupo de investigación Lenguas y Filosofías del Perú (LFP). Marco Lovón es docente en la UNMSM, la PUCP, la UPC y la Fundación de la Academia Diplomática del Perú (ADP). Y en las maestrías de Lingüística en la UNMSM y Lingüística Andina y Educación en la Universidad del Altiplano de Puno (UNAP). Autor del libro Las palabras compuestas en la lengua aimara (APL, 2020). Editor de Léxico, ideología y diccionario (IPPEC, 2017), Valdelomar en la letra: Meditaciones (APL, 2018), Cien años de Manuel González Prada (APL, 2018), Léxico y Literatura: Homenaje a Andrés Bello (APL, 2019), Los mudos hablan. Homenaje a Julio Ramón Ribeyro (APL, 2019). Y ha publicado artículos en revistas indizadas. Asimismo, es docente investigador Concytec en la categoría María Rostworowski Nivel I.
