Questões de método e interlocução em pesquisas com práticas de música

  • José Alberto Salgado

Abstract

This essay explores issues in the production of knowledge about musical practices, in situations where musicians conduct academic research. The discussion hinges on the observation of research practices based in two universities in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and enters in dialogue with considerations by Thomas Turino and Pierre Bourdieu on epistemology, contextualization and difference between discourses. It suggests that, when mediated by processes of dialogue, the encounter with musicians “in the field” can overcome traditional dichotomies between researchers and practitioners, and between logics of theory and practice. A concept of “epistemic encounter” is outlined, in order to problematize relations of otherness and participation of agents during an investigation –and the questions posed in the text stress the articulation between ethical and epistemic criteria for the assessment of projects and actions in researching practices of music.
