Buenos Aires villages: between depopulation and expansion (1991-2010)

Abstract

The objective is to analyze the processes of population change in small (1-2,000 inhabitants) and large (2,000-20,000 inhabitants) towns in the province of Buenos Aires in 1991-2010 and explore the differences in relation to accessibility (measured by distance to the main route and travel time to a city of 50,000 or more).A quantitative nature method was applied, based on obtaining indicators from secondary data sources, National Census (1991, 2001, 2010) and sources with information about accessibility. The results show that neither the depopulation nor the growth of towns are homogeneous processes and that demographic differentiations in towns are linked to accessibility and the consequent access to services or benefits necessary for daily life.
