Sentenças multimodais: o completamento gestual como um recurso comunicativo

Resumo

Neste artigo, estudamos enunciados multimodais nos quais um elemento gestual preenche uma função sintática em uma sentença verbalmente incompleta. Como aconteceu com outros fenômenos típicos da linguagem falada, seu estudo foi desdenhado por ser considerado um problema de desempenho: o gesto seria simplesmente um recurso para compensar o déficit do falante na produção de um elemento verbal. Ao contrário, nossa análise mostra que as complementações gestuais constituem um recurso comunicativo com funções próprias (intensificação, atenuação e favorecimento da progressão discursiva) que transcendem o uso de um possível equivalente verbal. Ao adotar a perspectiva êmica da linguística interacional, argumentamos que esses enunciados são considerados completos pelos participantes e, como tal, constituem sentenças multimodais. Assim, nosso artigo propõe a inclusão do gesto no estudo da gramática. Os dados são provenientes de três corpora audiovisuais que incluem amostras de diferentes variedades de espanhol.
