Abstract

Understanding the needs of potential cyclists, as well as travel behavior, and specially the profile of captive users, is essential for the design and implementation of new projects to support bicycle users. Therefore, this work aims to verify the potential for urban cycling in Belo Horizonte city (Brazil), considering the most probable cyclist’s profile, using the database of the Origin and Destination Research of 2012. In order to find the potential of Belo Horizonte to use the bicycle as a transportation mode, it was proposed to use the statistical method of logistic regression. The results demonstrate that Belo Horizonte has a great potential for bicycle travels. The increase of bicycle’s participation in the modal split can contribute to the improvement of both the mobility conditions in the city and the quality of urban life.
