Sectorial diversification and international projection of the municipality of Ensenada, Mexico

Abstract

The municipality of Ensenada, located in the state of Baja California, is part of the wide Coastal Region of Mexico, has developed from factors as being located in a regional context of economic importance - the Economic Broker Ensenada Mexicali - placed to the northwest of the country, in which the city and port of Ensenada redeem an excellent role; also, belonging to the commercial district of the Cuenca of the Pacific Ocean, being nearby the United States, main commercial consumer of the world, and to be located in an important route of cruises of the Pacific Ocean; aspects that, as a whole, affect in the shape of its diversified economy and have propitiated its international projection. The target of the work is to know the relevancy of the place of the municipality, the most significant economic characteristics in its development and its relation with the port activities; there does emphasis on its economic sectorización obtained with the application of a systematical quantitative methodology, on its levels of competitiveness, with the changes registered earlier and after the big economic crisis of 2009 and, finally, in its international projection across the connections of the maritime transport, derivatives of its port activity.
