All authors published in Patristica et Mediævalia agree to the following assessment conditions:

Articles, translations, and critical editions will be evaluated by two external referees, according to double-blind peer-review rules (referee-and author anonymity).

Referees will be asked about the legibility of the text, its thematic relevance, aim and effective contribution to the subject of study.

Possible responses are: accepted – accepted with changes – rejected with the possibility of a second review after making major changes – rejected. If a paper were rejected by only one referee, it will be required the assistance of a third referee. If a paper were "rejected with the possibility of a second review" but by the two referees, it will be considered rejected. The author will be notified within 8 weeks after the deadline for the submission of papers of the respective volume. The average time between the manuscript submission and its publication if it was accepted is circa 15 weeks.
