Abstract

This text is the result of the conversation open to the public between Roger Bernat and Óscar Cornago, once reviewed by both. This conversation took place on June 17, 2016 as part of the seminar “Performing devices and alternative modes of ‘being public ‘ “, organised by ARTEA at the National Arts Center and Museum Reina Sofia in Madrid as a part of the program Expanded theatricalities. The work of Roger Bernat began in 1996. Since then his career reflects important changes in the ways of doing and thinking the stage. Within this trajectory nothing more clearly marked his evolution as the premiere in 2008 of Dominio público. This work marks the beginning of another way to confront the stage with the public and raise new possibilities of representation and action in a collective sense. Where before there were actors now the public is taking charge of its own representation as a social fact. What does this shift? Did it really change the role of spectators and the actors in today´s society? How continue to understand the practice of theater when we are all actors in a representation in which almost all prefer not to have to participate? How to return to take charge of our own social story?
