Mantra, canto, exigencia: la poesía en el debate sobre la legalización del aborto, Argentina 2018

Abstract

It is striking that, in the context of the debates and demonstrations for the legalization of abortion that took place in Buenos Aires, throughout 2018, poetry has asserted itself as one of the discourses present in the disputes in the public square. There are many examples: in social media bringing up the topic, in magazines, in self-managed authorial books, mentioned inside the parliament, in the strong mobilization of the #poetasporelderechoalabortolegal, who performed on the stages of the square and even published the book Martes Verde. So, what is the relationship between poetry and the debate on abortion? What regimes of reading or poetic listening are implied in the references made inside the City Hall and by performing in the square? From the analysis of some poems used in the debates, this text aims to observe what is the definition of poetry and literature that was disputed in parallel to the dispute over the legalization of abortion.
