Abstract

This report describes the problem and limits of personal service in colonial Tucumán. The ample line of this labor system is reviewed by reformulating and revising former hypotheses already published in 1988. The discussion relies on data and references on the appraisal of tribute, both in kind and cash in the northern border of the Province. As a result, we can learn more about the limits of personal service, while emphasizing a relationship between that northern border with the colonial pattern set up in Charcas.
