Pinhole photos and the perception of environment: etnography with young students nearby a protect area – Utinga State Park (Belem, Para, Brazil)

Abstract

The article relates to the perceptions of students from an elementary school about their study and housing environments, that is nearby a protected area in the city of Belem, state of Para, Brazil.  The approaching to the students was made in two moments: the first one through a workshop of social maps and the second one through a workshop of pinhole photography. In the last one, it involved building cameras and make an photography essay in order to try to answer the collected data to answer the research questions. Therefore, the pictures revealed the human and non-human dimensions of their places, showing, above all, the ambivalence of that dimensions portrayed in backyards, pets, certificate and bike of everyday use. In addition to that products, the building and using of the pinhole camera that, in turn, was constituted in a training of estrangement and education of looking by that young students.
